DUSTLESS LOADING SPOUT
The
PEBCO® retractable dustless loading spout is designed to load
dusty, free-flowing bulk materials into a variety of containers and vehicles,
with a minimum of dust emissions. It is a self-contained unit comprised of a
series of stackable cones for product column control, a flexible outer sleeve
for dust containment, and a cable-winch system for spout retraction. Various
configurations are available to load both enclosed and open containers and
vehicles, as well as for product stockpiling. The spouts are available with a
wide variety of control features for any desired level of automation.
The DLS comes in a wide range of sizes capable
of handling from 200 CFM of material to in excess of 1,200 CFM of material. In
addition, PEBCO®/Cleveland
Armstrong® can supply positioners, integral dust collectors,
product spreaders, and fluidized conveyors.
PEBCO® spouts have a number of
features that are unique and give the user added benefits. For all models,
PEBCO® uses a 3 cable hoist to ensure even raising and
lowering as well as to prevent "cocking". The gear box and motor are located
outside the frame for easy access during servicing. The electric motor is
mounted horizontally so any oil leaks from gearbox will not run into the motor.
The gearbox and cable reels are direct coupled without the use of shearing
devices and all components are designed to take the full motor torque. Should
the spout get hung up so that it is prevented from rising, the motor overloads
will kick out preventing damage to the equipment. Getting back into operation is
only a matter of clearing the obstruction and resetting the overloads.
PEBCO®'s
Dustless Loading Spout (DLS) was designed with these benefits in mind:
- Fugitive dust containment
- Three cable winching for additional
stability
- Internal polyethylene, abrasion resistant,
urethane or stainless steel cones
This spout is used for loading bulk material
into trucks, railcars, barges and ships, as well as for discharging material
onto stockpiles. The spout can be provided with a positioner, integral dust
collector and product spreader.
When comparing competitive spouts with our
PEBCO® Model DLS-22, we have several distinct design
advantages. These are described below:
On most competitive spouts the
motor is mounted vertically inside the frame of the spout as compared to ours
which is mounted externally and horizontally. PEBCO®'s design greatly enhances ease of
inspection and service of the drive train. Our competitors use a smaller 7/8" main drive shaft as compared to PEBCO®'s
1¼" shaft. In addition, they incorporate a sintered metal coupling. The
reason for this metal coupling is the competition's gear reducer has a .6 safety
factor. There is the possibility that on stalling the chute during lifting, the
gear reducer limits could be approached. Therefore, the coupling is designed to
fail in order to protect the gear box.
PEBCO® does not need the shear
coupling as our competition does. We utilize a larger gear box, and as mentioned
earlier a larger shaft. Should the spout stall, the motor electrical overloads
would disengage the motor long before approaching the safety factor of our gear
box or drive train.
Due to mounting the motor inside the housing, the
competition has only enough room to put a two cable raising and lowering system.
This system has a much greater tendency to get out of alignment thus causing
excessive wear on the cones and/or on the dust enclosure sleeve.
PEBCO®
utilizes a three-cable lifting arrangement to eliminate alignment
problems and accelerated wear which results from misalignment.
"Cocking" of the spout is also eliminated. This design provides
increased stability even during high wind loading.
PEBCO®'s heavier duty design utilizes the use of
a more powerful electric motor. The competition's base spout electric motor is ½ horsepower, while the PEBCO®'s base spout
electric motor is 3/4 horsepower.
PEBCO® utilizes 240 BHN
abrasion resistant steel as the standard inner cone material. The competition
supplies an inner cone constructed of mild steel. PEBCO®'s inner cone material selection provides
longer cone life and less maintenance even when applied in applications where in
the product handled is highly abrasive.
