Fast, Clean, One Man, One-Floor Operation
What It Does
The Gemcomatic
is an automatic system for transferring materials from shipping drums to Gemco Blenders, Dryers or Formulators and
back to drums. This is achieved through the use of pneumatically controlled drum lift tray, a Gemco Dust-Tight Valve,
and a vessel positioning system (including all safety interlocks) mounted directly to any shape Gemco unit. The
result is a system that provides dust-free transfer of materials with substantial savings in time and labor.
Fast, Clean Operation
The Gemcomatic saves processing time. A typical Gemcomatic system will discharge a drum in just 90 seconds and
fill one in less than 60 seconds. This means faster throughput and greater processing efficiency. The blender spends
more time blending and less time loading and unloading.
A clean, totally "closed" system. Drums are pneumatically lifted until they contact an oversized face gasket,
forming a dust tight seal. The seal prevents dust problems and contamination caused by particle migration. When
loading back into drums after processing, the exclusive Gemco Valve provides a "Scooping" action which prevents
over filling and messy spills.

Clean, efficient totally automatic drum loading and discharging is virtually impossible without the exclusive
Gemco Dust-Tight Valve. Unlike butterfly valves which require a flange or "spool piece" Gemco's unique design allows
the drum to make flush contact with the bottom of the valve. When the valve closes, it simultaneously "Shears" through
the material and "scoops" the material out of the top of the drum and back into the vessel. This action eliminates
overfilling and spilling. No other system provides this unique feature.
How Gemcomatic Works
Loading Cycle
- Any size drum is rolled onto roller lift tray. Drum automatically positions-operator initiates
load cycle.
- Lifter raises drum to form dust-tight seal against face gasket around valve
- Valve automatically opens at approximately 110 degrees as unit rotates at 1.5 rpm
- Drum empties completely. Valve automatically closes at approximately 240 degrees and unit
continues to 0 position

Discharging Cycle
- Empty drum is rolled onto Gemcomatic tray. Drum automatically positions-operator initiates
unloading cycle
- Lift tray raises drum to form dust-tight seal against face gasket around the 16" Gemco
Valve
- Valve opens and drum fills volumetrically. Valve closes
- Unique "Scooping" action prevents overfilling
- Full drum is lowered and rolled off. Entire cycle takes approximately 60 seconds or less

Full Time Savings

Labor: Gemcomatic's entire process can be operated by one person. Often times, blending
personnel can be reduced by one or two people saving $20 - $30,000 per year per person.
Equipment: Gemcomatic eliminates the need for hoppers, skip hoists, loading platforms,
forklifts, and mezzanines. Plus, in many cases, its dust free operation reduces the need for ventilation and filtration
systems. An important concern when dealing with toxic materials.
Maintenance: By eliminating many pieces of extra equipment , maintenance costs are
reduced. The entire loading, processing, and unloading operations are restricted to one , low maintenance, highly
reliable unit.
Cleanup: Gemcomatic minimizes the risk of spillage, thereby reducing cleanup time.
Operating Space: Gemcomatic is a one floor operation which occupies the same space
as a conventional blender. Thus, blending rooms can be designed more economically without loading platforms or mezzanines.
