Agitators

Gemco Agitators

Many blenders utilize internal agitators to enhance the mixing process. Various types are manufactured for specific purposes. Gemco's agitator designs offer the highest degree of effectiveness. Blending is enhanced in any shape vessel with an internal agitator installed. The agitator provides the ability to de-lump, disperse minute quantities of dry or liquid materials, and blend large batches very rapidly.

Gemco cantilever agitators are designed to withstand material impact. The assembly features an agitator disc and dispersion blade combination that is sized according to vessel size and application.

Gemco provides
Gemco Agitators Are Available In Four Types
Slow Speed

Improved blending without attrition can be accomplished by using the Slow Speed agitator. Long, slow moving agitator blades allow load level variation and reduced seal wear. Suitable for breaking down soft lumps and blending minor additives, it can also be used for de-lumping. Typical blade tip speed is 1700 feet per minute. This design typically does not require a vented cover.

High Speed

Suitable for pigment and difficult dispersions as well as breaking down lumps, densifying and intimate blending of minute additives. Typical blade tip speed is anywhere from 1,650 to 3,300 feet per minute. This option normally requires a vented access cover.

The vented cover relieves any pressure that is created by the High Speed agitator. Without this, the pressure can push powder into the seal area prematurely and cause seal failure.

Ultra High Speed

Gemco's Ultra-High Speed Agitator can be operated for longer periods of time as the extended blades allow for high tip speed without generating excessive heat at the shaft area. Blade tip speed is up to 5,000 feet per minute.

Used for high intensity blending, the Ultra High Speed allows rapid blending of large batches. It's also used for pigment blending, it eliminates streaking and a final milling operation in many applications. This option normally requires a vented access cover.

The Sanitary Blade and Disc Option

The Sanitary Agitator-Blade and Disc is a one-piece design that allows for faster and easier cleaning. For those industries where cross contamination and bacterial growth cannot be tolerated, this construction is invaluable.

Gemco's Sanitary design improves productivity and reduces labor. With this one-piece system, the costly and non-productive time required to disassemble the individual blades, washers, nuts and bolts (32 to 64 individual components in conventional agitators) is eliminated. This eliminates final screening of product due to missing blades, nuts and bolts. Also, this design eliminates crevices where product can get caught.

DRYER OPTIONS

Heating/Cooling System

Gemco's Heating/Cooling System is a closed-loop design. Depending on the temperature required, either water based or oil based thermal media is used. Since the system is a closed-loop, additives such as rust inhibitors can be added and maintained to prolong the life of the vessel. An expansion tank is provided to minimize the need for make-up heating media.
By using the recirculating closed-loop design, heat up and cool down are accomplished gradually, eliminating thermal stress on the vessel. When both heating and cooling are required, Gemco uses a parallel configuration to minimize pressure drop and chances of vapor lock.

The components present in a Gemco Heating/Cooling System include:

Access Cover

Solids Cover

This is our standard cover and is available in a wide variety of sizes, materials and finishes to suit your application.

Vented Cover

The vented cover relieves any pressure that is created by the High-Speed and Ultra High-Speed agitator. Without this, the pressure can push powder into the seal area prematurely and cause seal failure. Gemco offers a variety of sizes, materials, finishes and filter media to suit your application.

Cover Valve

This option provides a Gemco cover valve. This cover replaces the standard access cover and allows discharge of product through the opposite end of the blender. This option is not available on V-Shaped Vessels.

Safety Interlock

This cover option provides a pneumatic safety circuit and associated hardware to interlock with the operation (rotation) of the vessel. Access cover(s) are fitted with tabs to trip pneumatic cam valves. Removal of cover(s) will lock out the electrical circuit of the vessel to avoid accidental rotation of equipment.

Sample Port

This option provides a 316 stainless steel sample valve in the access cover which allows a product sample to be taken without opening the access cover.

Vac-U-Max

This option provides a cover with Vac-u-Max connections for pneumatic conveying.
