  Retractable Sleeves

image

The pneumatically operated Gemco Retractable Sleeves are designed for the dustless transfer of solids from one processor to another. These Retractable sleeves are available in telescoping rigid designs (usually stainless steel), or flexible boots, (usually white Neoprene). The telescoping models are used for one-way flows and flexible models used for bi-directional flows. The two pneumatic cylinders of the Retractable sleeve can be controlled locally, remotely or by automatic sequencing. Our sleeves are available in a range of finishes and coatings with a variety of stroke lengths and mounting configurations.

Gemco Airlocks

image

Gemco Airlocks are designed to control the flow of material between two atmospheres or pressures. They typically consist of two standard Type T Valves connected by an intermediate chamber and are often used instead of rotary feeders, which are prone to high maintenance and leakage of material and gases. Normal cycling varies from one to three times per minute. Slower cycling is possible and nominal material flows of one half to ten cubic feet per cycle are available. Chamber purge, sight glasses, clean-out ports, and automatic cycling controls are among the custom engineering options available. configurations.

The D-2 Diverter Valve

image

The D-2 Diverter Valve places the Gemco Spherical Disc Valve in a 'Y' junction that allows the valve to select a product feed from one of the two inputs, or to direct one incoming stream of material to either of the two outlets. The standard D-2 valve is constructed of 316 stainless steel, but it can be made from any weldable alloy. The two ports can be positioned at 30 degrees, 45 degrees, or 60 degrees off the center-line of the third port. Typical Diverter applications take advantage of its rugged design and its optional sanitary version in uses varying from rock crushers to food processing

Vacuum Tumble Drying

How It Works

image

Vacuum tumble drying of materials is accomplished by heating the walls of a specially jacketed slow rotating vessel while applying vacuum. The vacuum lowers the boiling point of the component, while constant particle contact with the vessel walls provides fast heat input for quick, uniform drying action. The closed tumble vessel provides constant motion in a controlled atmosphere. This prevents lumping, segregation and active ingredient migration. The simple concept of applying heat and vacuum forms the basis of Gemco’s full line of Tumble Dryers, Blenders and Formulators. All are available in V-Shape, D/3 Double Cone and Slant Cone designs.

Slant Cone

image

The asymmetrical geometry of the Gemco Slant Cone design offers a very fast blend time. High particle mobility, plus the intermeshing action of materials results in blend times up to 33 percent less than other designs. In addition, this concept achieves more control and more precise end product with blend variation as low as ½ percent.

V-Shape

image

Gemco V-shape blenders are very popular in a wide variety of industries. They offer both short blending times…and efficient blending. The blend is achieved by the constant, dividing and intermeshing particle movement provided by two connected cylinders. This precise mixing action results in blend variations of 1-2%. Each cylindrical leg has an access cover for easy material loading and cleaning. The V, as all tumble blenders, requires low maintenance and consumes little horsepower.

Double Cone

image

The unique design of the Gemco D/3 Double Cone Blender results in a high degree of particle mobility without the use of internal baffles. This type of blender has a low profile, requiring less head-room than a V-blender. One access cover means easier cleaning and inspection. Invented by Gemco in 1935, the Double Cone is a proven performer in a wide variety of industries, offering greater overall volume and high efficiency with blend variations 1-2%.

Production Blenders

image

Only Gemco offers 3 different geometric styles and a variety of options in our 10-300 cubic foot production blenders. Each machine is tailored to customer specifications and applications. With installations in the Pharmaceutical, Cosmetics, Ceramic, General Chemical and powdered metals industries, Gemco's Production Tumble Blenders are one of the most versatile batch process blenders available today. To enhance the discharge of poor flowing or easily segregated materials, various discharge angles are available.

Convertible Model

image image

The Convertible Model Blender has been designed for the customer who does not have an immediate need for internal agitation, but contemplates the need on future material applications. The Convertible Model Blender is designed having one(1) hollow trunnion machine to accept bearings, seal cartridge and assembly, and agitator shaft. Stainless steel end caps are furnished, closing off the machined trunnion internals until needed. A motor base plate is provided on one(1) support frame for future installation of an agitator motor. When the conversion is required, a complete agitator assembly (Slow-speed, High-speed or liquid feed) is provided with ball bearings, seal cartridge and seal reassemble, motor, belts, sheaves and belt guard to suit agitator.

Laboratory Blenders

image

Gemco's laboratory blenders provide a multi-capability approach to research and development and pilot applications. Solids blending, de-lumping, liquid addition, and agglomerations are easily accomplished in minutes. For many applications the units can also function as reaction vessels as well.
Gemco lab blenders are actually scaled down versions of full product blenders. Each incorporates Gemco's traditional dual trunnion design frame with full bag bearing support. Each provides the optional ability to add liquids either with standard gravity feed or with the revolutionary Airless Liquid Injection System. In short, a Gemco lab blender is an invaluable additional to any R&D or Pilot Operation.

Support Enclosures

image

Full 316 stainless steel support enclosures are standard on every Gemco lab blender. These protect the motor drive and vessel supports and help maintain sanitary conditions around the blending area. The motors are not in the discharge area so potential damage from material spills is eliminated.

Size

All Gemco lab blenders are 16 quart capacity. This allows a working capacity of 4-16 quarts. For systems with optional agitators, batches of less than 50% of capacity may be run with the use of optional cover insert scoops (available on Double-Cone and Slant-Cone). These scoops lift the material off the bottom and drop it on the agitator for effective small batch blends.

The unit has been designed with an 18 kW heating system that delivers up to 450 degrees F. to the vessel and a vacuum system that creates 29.5 IN Hg. A vacuum tight slide valve with O-ring decreases leak rate to 0.3 IN Hg per hour..

Blenders-Dryers

Blend And Dry in One Operation

The basic Gemco Tumble Dryer is the initial product in this versatile line. The vessel is first charged with material then is rotated at a low speed (normally from 2-5 rpm) while heat from 120 - 500 degrees +F and vacuum is applied. The gentle tumble action provides maximum particle contact with the vessel wall for maximum drying efficiency. Cooling systems are available to reduce material temperature after drying as required by the process, or for faster unloading and handling safety. All Gemco Dryers are available with optional agitators to prevent lumping and caking during drying.

image

A Gemco Blender-Dryer is a dryer with an added variable speed drive system which provides the capability of rotating at the higher speeds ( normally 5-20 rpm) required for effective blending. Thus the system can be used before or after drying. The system is versatile enough to be used simply as a Tumble Blender, or a Tumble Dryer or as a Combined Tumble Blender-Dryer- all depending upon the product. Agitators are installed if needed.
