Hopper Dust Level Indicators
Collection bin dust level indicators are used to prevent excessive
dust buildup which can result in inefficient operation and damage to emission control system components. Hopper
level indicators afford reliable and ample warning of high level dust buildup in collection hoppers which could
cause short-circuiting of emitting electrodes, damage to collecting plates and/or re-intrainment of collected dust.
Conversely, the low level indicator can shut off a system at the appropriate time, saving energy through not running
dust removal equipment unnecessarily. Hopper level indicators are available in both contacting and non-contacting
types. The contact type indicator uses a probe which makes actual contact with the material in the collection hopper.
The non-contacting type uses gamma ray radiation to project a narrow ray across the hopper to a detector located
on the opposite wall. If the ray is blocked, either an alarm is sounded or the dust removal equipment is automatically
engaged.
Benefits:
- Minimizes possibility of power loss in sections of a precipitator because of short circuiting.
- Minimizes possibility of damage to collecting plates and emitting electrodes.
- Alerts personnel to malfunction of dust removal system or trips removal system if part of a high-low
arrangement.
- High level indicators are located on the outside wall to provide easy accessibility.
- Prevents re-entrainment of collected dust by alerting personnel to filled hopper condition.
